My mom smoked when she was pregnant. But that was 50 years ago. I guess it takes a long time for the effects to show up.

At my first job, the professor in the next lab over studied fetal alcohol syndrome. He had some awful stories about terrible parents and the poor kids who suffered as a result of their parents’ poor choices. I made sure I picked a wife who wouldn’t drink while she was pregnant.

Having to pick a wife based on them giving your kids FAS reminds me of how fucked up the generation before mine is. We have a lot of cleaning up to do.

I've worked with up front. A few years ago I volunteered at camp in South Alberta that mostly has kids with FAS. It really sucked see those kids go home. Seeing their living conditions in the Native Reserves & their family was hard.
